The Recent Acquisition case in the museum, where a selection of newly acquired items are displayed, was recently updated and renewed.

A wide variety of fascinating and unusual objects make their way, mostly via generous donation, into the museum’s collection and it is not always possible to show them all.

The items selected for display that have come in over the past two years includes: a very early example of a tennis ball, circa 1869 which was found on St Catherine’s Island (even Andy Murray would struggle getting an ace out of this one); a lock from the Victorian toilets that were once situated on Castle Hill; a post medieval stone cannon ball found in Lower Frog Street, a sign from the De Valence Pavilion and a tobacco urn presented to George Ace in 1875.

This is the first of the updated displays at the museum planned for 2017.
