The new joint exhibition Celebrating the Year of the Sea by Anna Waters and Dawny Tootes was officially opened at the museum on Friday 15 June.

The exhibition was formally opened by Michael O’Dwyer, owner of the Cwtch Café Shop and Art Gallery in Pembroke Dock. Michael spoke of how artists face day to day challenges, with their work, self- doubt and finances and the hard work and skill of Anna and Dawny is recognised in their works that adorn the walls of the gallery. “2018 is the year of she sea,” he continued, “and it is appropriate as Pembrokeshire has more Blue Flag beaches per mile than anywhere else in Britain. This exhibition certainly shows appreciation of the wonderful coastline that we have here in Pembrokeshire. I would like to welcome you all to the exhibition and encourage you to enjoy it.”

Anna and Dawny thanked everyone for coming and offered appreciation to the museum for allowing them to show in their “wonderful gallery space.”

Anna’s beautiful land and seascapes are “my personal response to the stunning landscape of Pembrokeshire, a county dripping in gems and throughout the seasons, wonderful, west-coast light brings magic to its beaches, seas, villages and mountains, providing boundless inspiration to any artist.”

Dawny’s eye-catching sculptures in molten aluminium presents “a visual dialogue, which flows between abstract, figurative and forms found in nature” and the work on display brings together startling imagery of crashing waves and rolling oceans.

This sales exhibition runs at the museum until Sunday 29 July.
