The new exhibition is Celebrating The Sea: An Exhibition of work by members of the Royal Society of Marine Artists.

The exhibition features 57 works by 23 members of the society.  It features work of Tenby and Pembrokeshire as well as further afield including Lymington, the Isle of White, Cornwall, Brittany, Venice and Sorrento and several works of different sea going vessels.

The exhibition was officially opened by Elizabeth Smith, president of the Society.  She thanked the museum staff for inviting the Society to exhibit.  “We were absolutely delighted to accept the invitation” she said.  “To the best of my knowledge we have never had a Society exhibition in this part of the world which is a bit surprising given the vast amount of marine material in the area!  It’s a marine artists paradise.  We are a national society with members all across the country but we have very few who live in this part of the word, although historically (we were founded in 1939) we do have someone with very strong Tenby connections – Peter Anson who was a monk on Caldey Island.   We are delighted to have come here. Not all our members are represented but you will see we paint in a large variety of styles in different mediums but the one unifying factor is the sea and the coastline.  I hope you enjoy looking at the works as much as we enjoyed painting them!”

This sales exhibition runs from 29 April until Sunday 12 June.
