Tenby Museum was saddened to hear this week of the passing of Doreen Hammersley.
Doreen had been a generous supporter of the museum for a number of years and each and every one of us who had the good fortune of knowing her could count her as a friend. Doreen was a lady who always had a smile and a kind word and never brought anything with her but joy and a tremendous sense of fun. She often came to art openings and events and was always encouraging to children and artists and gave the museum the benefit of her positivity . Even during her illness she remained positive and strong and an inspiration to us all. In June 2014 she was awarded the BritishEmpire Medal in the Queen’s birthday honours, an award that she thoroughly deserved.
Doreen was well known in the community and the numerous tributes paid to the museum post on Facebook bears testament to her popularity. Doreen will be sadly missed and the world will be marked by her absence.
