An Architect’s Impression – Art Show by David J.P. Morgan
The new art exhibition, An Architect’s Impression by David J.P. Morgan, RIBA was officially opened at Tenby Museum and Art Gallery on Friday 12 April by well known local artist Doreen Hammersley.
In her introduction Honorary Curator Kathy Talbot stated that the exhibition was “hugely evocative of Tenby’s maritime life and industrial history” and Doreen observed that it was a “fantastic show, full of movement and life”. She congratulated David on his “wonderful use of different mediums, including oil and acrylic and watercolour and the movement of light made the viewer just want to keep on looking.” Overall, Doreen concluded, the exhibition was “gorgeous.”
The exhibition features thirty one pictures, many of which are available for purchase. David, a fully qualified architect who has always had an overriding passion to paint, has stated that his favourite inspiration is his hometown, in particular the harbour, the curve and lines of the boats and the seasonal moods of Tenby and even though there are such pictures as tankers at the Valero jetty and a plaza in Madrid, this strong native influence is abundantly on show in the exhibition.
The exhibition runs until Sunday 26 May.
The museum has frequent changing art shows in the New Art Gallery. Many of these are sales exhibitions where original works of art by contemporary artists can be purchased. The museum offers the Collectorplan scheme where works can be purchased through a monthly payment system.
The gallery shows works in various mediums including paintings, photographs, ceramics, glassware and sculpture. Among the many artists who have exhibited are: Philip Sutton RA; John Knapp Fisher; David Bellamy; Paul Roche; Mick Morgan; Rebecca Naden, Royal Photographer of the Year 1993; Claudia Williams; Gwilym Prichard; Geoff Yeomans; Grahame Hurd-Wood; Susan Sands; Steve Robinson; Jackie Morris; Darren Yeadon; Denis Curry and Elizabeth Haines.
