Become a Friend of Tenby Museum & Art Gallery

One of the oldest surviving independent museums in the United Kingdom, Tenby Museum and Art Gallery is a non-profit making charitable trust, run almost exclusively by volunteers. The museum works closely with national and regional museums throughout Wales and elsewhere. Tenby Museum has gained many national and regional awards and has earned the reputation of being one of the best museums of its kind in the country.

The Friends of Tenby Museum and Art Gallery exist to help the museum and art gallery maintain its recognised high reputation. Be assured that all monies paid into the Friends are strictly audited and that all financial assistance paid out is controlled within the terms of a formal constitution.

The annual subscription (1st January – 31st December) is £10.00 for a single member and £16.00 for a joint membership. This nominal fee entitles the payee to free entry to the museum for the current year. Life membership starts at £200 for a single member and entitles the payee to free entry for life. For couples a joint life membership is available at £250.

As well as free entry to the Museum on presentation of your card you are welcome to a 10% reduction on cards, books and other items in the Museum’s shop.

What happens to your subscription?

Subscriptions are used to financially support the museum with refurbishment projects, new displays, exhibition catalogues, conservation work and the purchase of new equipment. For example in 2008 the Friends contributed £12500 towards the cost of work in the lower gallery. In 2009 the Friends assisted with the purchase of a digital camera and a notice board. An exhibition catalogue for the Robert Recorde art exhibition was funded by the Friends in 2011 and £4000 was provided to replace the ceiling and lights in the Wilfred Harrison gallery. Conservation work on the Sedan Chair was partly funded by the Friends along with the Museums new web site. The latest project assisted by the Friends was the purchase of a TV/DVD player for use in the galleries. Future plans include a contribution towards the cost of interactive displays in the archaeology gallery and the full cost of new signs on the outside of the Museum.

Members are kept informed of events and developments at the museum through a regular newsletter.
